A new month, a new list of tech and startup events and meetups that you just have to attend if you’re in Barcelona. We sure as heck won’t be bored in the next four weeks! Note: if you’re interested in going to an event, make sure you click on it and check if you need to sign up or get tickets.
- Saturday, 6 May 10:00 am – 2:00 pm @ Ironhack (Carrer Pamplona 96)
- Tuesday, 9 May 7:00 pm @ Itnig (Carrer Alaba 61)
The phrase “chatbots are the future” has nearly become commonplace in the tech industry. But, according to itnig, even though bots are everywhere these days, as they get rolled out in more and more products, they still often miss the human touch we need them to have in interaction with users and customers. Caravelo is developing chatbots for some of the world’s leading airlines and at this meetup, Caravelo CTO Marc Fornós will share some insight on how to make bots TRULY conversational.
- Wednesday, 10 May 7:00 pm @ Cloud Coworking Urquinaona (Ronda Sant Pere 52)
If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s foolish to start a company without private investment, or whether it’s totally worth it, this event is for you. The hosts, Pandorahub and Starting Legal, believe that self-financing and self-management is not only possible but recommended for startups. To prove their point, they’ve invited Enspiral, a foundation managing a growing number of self-funded tech ventures, to Barcelona. Get to know Enspiral’s story first-hand from one of its co-founders, Kate Beercroft, and be convinced that you’ll be better off growing your startup on your own.
- Thursday, 11 May 6:00 pm @ Codeworks (Carrer Avila 27)
During the F1 week, TechMeetups are bringing together startups and F1 enthusiasts in this F1 themed Drinks & Demo night. The theme for the evening is performance, and presenters will talk about what is needed for your startup to perform like a F1 car. It’s a great chance to do a bit of networking and share ideas over a glass of beer and a slice of pizza, and you can also demo your startup idea and get feedback from the community (fill out this form to sign up for a demo).
- Thursday, 25 May 7:30 pm @ FabCafé Barcelona (Carrer Bailén 11)
Interested in innovative biotech projects? FabCafé and CREB UPC believe that engineering draws its inspiration from creative fields and that creative fields are enriched by techie sectors, which is why they’ve launched a series of meetups to encourage the merging of the two. During this event, members of the CREB UPC will come to present their innovative project at FabCafé. Each participant will have 5 minutes to explain its idea, concept and to eventually present a prototype.
- Saturday, 27 May @ W Barcelona Hotel (Plaça Rosa dels Vents 1)

- Monday, 29 May 6:30 pm @ Mobile World Centre (Plaça Catalunya, Portal de l’Àngel/ Auditorio Movistar Planta 2)
Are you a fan of smart watches and VR goggles? If you can’t wait for the day when the futuristic visions presented by sci-fi movies finally come true and all humans will be wearing something digital on their bodies, this event is for you. The WT Picnic is an informal and fun gathering for everyone interested in wearable technologies, organized by local WT partners and held globally throughout the month of May. On 29 May, it’s Barcelona’s time to gather it’s wearable-aficionados and invite them to exchange their thoughts on the future of these techie accessories.
